Carthaginian Empire

After Hannibal's victory at Cannae, Rome was quickly sacked by Hannibal's army and Italian allies in 214 BCE. After the fall of Rome, Carthage quickly expanded its influence (the Orange line is the extent of direct control while the blue line is under Carthaginian influence and in contact with Carthage via trade). When the Huns and other barbarians arrived, the formidable walls and military of Carthage withheld these invasions but the empire only became a shadow of its former self until its utter collapse in the 15th century. Still, Carthage remains one of the most important cultures in history influencing global thought and culture to this very day.
